Other Programs
  • Psycholinguistics: How do people use and understand language? I'm especially interested in nonliteral language such as metaphor, irony and idioms.
  • Cognitive neuroscience: In collaboration with Dr. Victoria Kazmerski we are looking for the psychophysiological correlates of non-literal language and memory using behavioral and ERP methodologies.
  • Problem solving and Creativity: How is creativity and problem solving related? We are looking at the creative processes involved in the reading and writing of Haiku poetry.
  • Mental imagery and Spatial skills: How do people differ in their ability to imagine objects in 3-dimensional space. Can this ability, so useful in fields like engineering be improved with training?  In this project I am collaborating with Ms. Kathy Holliday-Darr in engineering to develop a web based training tool called VIZ.
  • The use of computers and technology in teaching. In collaboration with the other psychology faculty, we are developing an interactive digital video multimedia program (COR) to teach observational techniques in the Basic Research Methods class.
  • Improving education for boys and girls. I'm involved in the Math Options Program and the High Aspirations Teacher Training program. I am also working to encourage community involvement with the Civic and Community Engagement minor.
