SCHOOL OF HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES Production for Fall 2011: Announcing Behrend’s Fall Theatre Production This fall we will be producing (pending rights) a hilarious satire from contemporary Italian playwright Dario Fo and his creative partner-in-crime Franca Rame. Elizabeth: Almost By Chance a Woman cleverly mixes a critique of powerful heads of state with commentary on theatre’s ability to threaten those very same individuals. The play revolves around Elizabeth I, former Queen of England, and her fears that Shakespeare has written Hamlet as an attack on her! Fo relates this historical situation to his own encounters with American politics in the 1980s. Swarming bees, an ineffective assassin, and a wooden horse all make appearances in this quick-paced, high-energy play. The production will take place during the first two weekends of November 2011.
