The Computer Science major at Penn State Behrend offers science-minded students an intensive, four-year major combining a traditional computer core curriculum with mathematics and natural science.

The major stresses the fundamentals of computer science-programming, discrete math, data structures, and analysis and design of algorithms-and their practical applications in system programming, database management, scientific visualization, and telecommunications. Fundamentals provide a conceptual framework that allows you to quickly assimilate new information in a rapidly evolving field; practical applications develop skills you'll need to solve real-world problems.

You'll use elective courses to acquire either broad knowledge of the sciences or in-depth knowledge of one particular field in which you want to apply computer science techniques.
