When Will I Hear Something?

Student aid award notifications from Penn State are sent out by email as early as mid March for first year and transfer students. Returning students receive their aid award notifications by email starting in June. Students may receive awards from a combination of student aid programs including grants, loans, and work-study. Because funds are very limited, late applicants may not be considered for all aid programs.

Please remember that your student aid may not necessarily cover all your educational expenses. Families must be prepared to meet the difference between educational costs and student aid.

Most students can expect to receive student loans as part of, or as the only source of, assistance. Students who do not qualify under the federal formula for grants, work-study, or low-interest loans will be notified promptly. We can provide information about alternative financing programs to students who need additional help in meeting their costs. In addition, Penn State offers pre-payment and deferred payment options to assist families with paying costs.
