Koerbel and Dubensky Tabbed AMCC Baseball Players of the Week

David Koerbel (Pittsburgh/Central Catholic) was named AMCC Baseball Pitcher of the Week and Dustin Dubensky (Punxsutawney/Punxsutawney) was named AMCC Baseball Player of the Week on May 12.  Koerbel and Dubensky both came through this weekend at the AMCC Championship Tournament, helping the blue and white earn the conference title and automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Koerbel earned two of the Behrend's three conference tournament wins.  He went the distance in a 8-0 complete game shutout over Pitt-Bradford on Friday, then came in on short relief on Sunday to hold off Pitt-Bradford in the top of the ninth inning and shut down a Panthers rally to earn the title.

Dubensky hit .562 (9-for-16) in leading the Behrend Lions to the AMCC Title, driving in eight runs and scoring five runs.  In the championship game against Pitt-Bradford on Sunday, Dubensky came through with four RBIs in a 9-8 victory.  His three doubles in the tournament boosted his league-leading total to 23 for the season.

The Penn State Behrend baseball team will head to Kean University to compete this week in the NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament.  The blue and white snagged the AMCC conference title on May 11, and will now head to the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament to compete in opening round play in an eight-team regional on Wednesday, May 14.

Behrend (34-10) earned the #4 seed in the Mid-Atlantic regional and will play #5 seed Messiah College (27-16) at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium in Newark, New Jersey.

All NCAA Regional Tournament games will be web cast with Live Stats accessible via the internet from the Official Tournament Host webpage at: http://www.keanathletics.com/NCAA/baseball2008/index
