Behrend Track Prepares to Compete in 13 Events at the ECAC Championships

The Penn State Behrend track and field team will be competing in 13 events at this year's ECAC Championships, held at Springfield College on May 18-19.  Among the competitors for the women are, Staci Banaszek (Erie/Harborcreek), Kim Chapman (Cranberry Township/Seneca Valley), Lauren Kremm (Greenville/Greenville), Jenny Bailey (Corry/Corry), the 4 x 100 meter squad, and the 4 x 400 meter team.  Representing the men are Dennis Scheuer (McKean/General McLane), Jon Mckinney (Summerville/Union), Shane Rock (McKean/General McLane), Dan Mitchell (Bloomsburg/Bloomsburg), and the 4 x 100 meter relay team.

The women will be led by senior captain Staci Banaszek, who has been to the ECACs each of her previous three seasons, earning All-ECAC honors each year.  Banaszek will be competing in the long, triple, and high jumps.  Freshman Kim Chapman will also be competing in several events, she is part of both relay teams competing and also must ready herself for the 100-meter high hurdles, and the 400-meter intermediate hurdles.  Jenny Bailey will compete in the 5000 meter distance event.  Bailey qualified with a time of 18:49.34 at the Western PA Championships.  Lauren Kremm, also a member of both relay teams, will take part in the 100-meter sprint.

The men's side is filled with four individuals who have earned All-ECAC status in the past.  Scheuer was named All-ECAC last year and will be competing as part of the 4 x 100 meter relay team as well as in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles.  Mckinney and Rock both made All-ECAC in 2004 and will try to do it again in the triple jump.  Mitchell qualified in the javelin event, throwing the spear 193' 6", good enough to also provisionally qualify him for the NCAA championships.
