Nursing Management Certificate

A 4-course, 12-credit program

Set yourself apart from other registered nurses on the career ladder by gaining the tools needed for nurse manager positions.

Nurse Manager

            • Monthly classroom meetings are paired with online instruction for optimal convenience.
            • Courses are aligned with the core curriculum and competencies for nurse managers, developed by the American Organization of Nurse Executives.
            • Each course satisfies 15 contact hours toward Act 58 requirements.
            • Up to two of the courses in the program can be applied as electives in Penn State's RN to BS program.



Program Curriculum:

NURS 430 Organization and Administration for the Nurse Manager (3 credits)
Introduction to organizational theory and principles of practice in the administration of nursing services and patient care.

NURS 431 Data Management for Nurse Managers (3 credits)
Analysis of information systems to manage nursing service organizations; includes financial management, the budgeting processes, and productivity measurement.

NURS 432 Nursing Management of Human Resources (3 credits)
Human resource management and related factors in nursing service organizations.

NURS 433 Seminar for Nurse Managers (3 credits)
Focuses on the application of management principles in the role of the nurse manager.

Admission Requirements:

Enrollment in these courses is open to currently licensed registered nurses. All program courses must be taken for a letter grade, and students must maintain at least a C (2.0 grade-point) average to receive a Penn State certificate upon completing the program.
