MATH OPTIONS FOR GIRLS

Welcome to the Math Options program, a math, science, technology, engineering, and business career day for seventh- and eighth-grade girls.

This program, an outreach service of Penn State Erie, The Behrend College's Continuing Education department, has been designed to provide information on careers in mathematics, engineering, technology, and the sciences to young women at a time when they are making important academic decisions. Girls from schools in Erie, Crawford, Potter, Venango, and Warren counties attend the Math Options program.

On May 13, 2008 Continuing Education hosted the twelfth annual Math Options Career Day. Nearly 250 female students from forty Pennsylvania schools experienced interactive workshops while meeting women and men who work in STEM fields.  Our keynote speakers, Sara Grisé, coastal outreach specialist for Pennsylvania Sea Grant, an outreach unit of Penn State Behrend, and Nina Baird, a Ph.D. candidate in building performance and diagnostics at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, shared experiences and highlights from their own academic and professional careers.
