Penn State Behrend featured in The Princeton Review’s The Sam and Irene Black School of Business at Penn State Behrend is one of the nation’s most outstanding business schools, according to The Princeton Review. The New York-based education services company profiled the school in the new 2006 edition of its “Best 237 Business Schools.” “Our AACSB-accredited MBA program certainly strives to be among the best,” said John Magenau, director of the Black School of Business. “It is certainly an honor to be recognized as such.” The Black School’s MBA program currently enrolls 150 students in both part-time and full-time studies. It offers a superior student-to-faculty ratio of 5:1. According to the guide, the Black School gives solid preparation in general management and teamwork. The two-page profiles in “Best 237 Business Schools” have sections on the school’s academics, student life, admissions and career programs. In the profile on the Black School, the book's editors describe the school as an overlooked gem. They quote students attending the Black School who say “professors are good at relating today’s business trends into classroom activities and discussions” and “I feel very lucky to have found a great school.” The book's listings are based on institutional data from the schools and on surveys of 16,000 students attending the 237 schools profiled in the book. The survey asked students over 50 questions about themselves, their career plans, and their schools’ academics, student body and campus life. According to the surveys, students in the Black School are “friendly,” “happy” and benefit from smart classrooms. Ninety percent of Black School MBA students reported employment at graduation. “Our MBA program emphasizes planning and problem-solving skills,” said Peg Thoms, director of the MBA program and associate professor of management. “We work to give our students practical experience of business world theory.” The MBA program is currently holding information sessions. Peg Thoms, discusses the immediate advantages students experience while enrolled in the Black School’s AACSB-accredited MBA program. The final session of the fall, to be held on Thursday, November 10, at 6 p.m., also provides information on admission to the program.
