The revolutionary Imani Winds will open the sixteenth season of the Logan Music Series at Penn State Behrend Tuesday, September 20. The quintet’s noon performance in the McGarvey Commons of the Reed Union Building is free and open to the public.

Imani Winds’ mission to expand the boundaries of the traditional wind quintet and connect European, African, and American music traditions is embodied by their name Imani, which means “faith” in Swahili. This renowned ensemble is recognized by their dynamic playing, innovative programming, and inspirational outreach programs.

A Washington Post review wrote that "its goal is nothing less than to change the face — literally — of the classical wind quintet. Imani Winds represents nothing less than the future of the once-quaint notion of the wind quintet."

Music at Noon: The Logan Wintergarden Series was founded by Kay Logan in 1989 and is supported by the Kay Logan Trust, the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation, the Arts Council of Erie; Student Activity Fees at Penn State Behrend; and Pennsylvania Partners on the Arts. Logan created this unique series as a way of bringing classical music to all audiences, including children. All of the musical groups incorporate an educational program with audience interaction into their performances, and each ensemble also performs at Diehl School, Penn State Behrend’s Adopt-a-School partner. Dr. Daniel Barnard, choral director at Behrend, serves as series director.

Guests are encouraged to bring a brown-bag lunch to enjoy the informality of this noontime event. For more information about upcoming Logan performances, please contact the Penn State Erie Office of Student Activities at (814) 898-6171.
