THE CHANCELLOR'S MESSAGE ABOUT DIVERSITY
At Penn State Behrend, we believe higher education institutions are laboratories for ideas, and the more backgrounds, opinions, and perspectives that are brought to bear on the issue, the better the ideas created and the greater the learning.
An education should prepare students for a lifetime. To this end, we feel it is important for students to participate in a community of scholars that includes the diverse perspectives and life experiences they will encounter as they live in our increasingly global community. We ask our students to investigate new worlds and to look at familiar problems from fresh perspectives.
At Penn State Behrend, we promote diversity not only in our courses, but also outside the classroom through initiatives such as our Educational Equity and Diversity Programs. Also, our Multi-Cultural Council promotes awareness, understanding and appreciation of historically underrepresented groups across the campus and acts as an advisory organization designed to promote unity and cooperation among its member organizations.
