DIVERSITY COMMITTEES

On Pursue of Understanding…

Penn State Behrend maintains ongoing committees that explore diversity on campus including:

• Chancellor’s Committee on Diversity (CCD) which focuses on evaluating and implementing strategies related to campus climate, curricula, and hiring practices for faculty and staff from underrepresented groups.

• The Diversity and Educational Equity Committee (DEEC) comprised of students, faculty, and staff dedicated to creating a campus climate that promotes understanding, respect, and support for an increasingly diverse campus population.

The overall missions of DEEC is to develop, and evaluate strategies for recruiting and retaining a more diverse College population, assessing a campus climate, promoting appreciation for differences, and for ensuring equal access to programs and services of the College Community.

A key ingredient to a quality undergraduate education is the process of learning about differences through reading, reflection, discussion, and personal exchange both inside and outside of the classroom.

• The Student Government Association (SGA) Diversity Committee works with the Multi-Cultural Council (MCC) and other organizations in pursuing its goals of raising awareness about diversity; how and why it is important on campus. It also works in reaching out to others less inclined to learn about diversity issues.
