Questions about FIGs
FIG Listing

1.) Do I have to live on campus to be in a FIG?
No, FIGs are composed of an equal number of residential, off-campus, and commuting students.

2.) Is there any extra cost added to my bill if I enroll in the FIG program?
No!  There is no extra cost for enrolling in the FIG program.   But there may be extra cost if you are enrolled in the FIG Senat Hall Living Option, because the cost for living in Senat Hall is greater than the cost of living in a traditional residence hall.  Be sure to check with Housing and Food Services to find out the living cost.

3.) Is the FIG program only for first-year students?
Yes.  Each FIG provides an introduction into a field of study and an introduction to life at Penn State Behrend so it will be most beneficial for first year students.

4.) What happens if I decide I do not want to be in that major?
The FIG program is an opportunity to get more information about a field of study.  This means that you can make an informed decision about your choice of major. If you decide that the major is not for you, you can explore a new major at the end of the semester.  Your Peer Mentor and your Faculty Advisor will help you with those decisions!

5.) How do I enroll in a FIG?
Enrollment is on a first-come, first served basis, and space is limited.  Enrollment will open in February 2008.  If you are invited to the Senat Hall FIG Experience you will be mailed instructions with your invitation packet. Complete details are listed here. You can enroll by sending in the enrollment card when you receive it or by going to the enrollment form on-line. Your enrollment form may be mailed to Penn State Erie, 5091 Station Road, Erie, PA 16563, faxed to 814-898-6024, or emailed to Debbie Hayes dzh6@psu.edu.

6.) Why should I take a FIG?
FIGs are an opportunity to quickly become a part of the academic community at Behrend.  It will enable you to interact with full-time faculty and other students who share your interest,  and it will introduce you to many of the learning tools and resources available at Penn State
