WHY GO GREEK?

As an active member there are local and national scholarships, leadership workshops, academic support and unlimited resources. Nationals provide their chapters with a traveling consultant, conferences, and the most up-to-date policies. When you join a national social Greek organization, you are joining a national/international network. There are many job opportunities within the organization as well as opportunities through networking. Did you know…

•  Of Supreme Court Justices since 1910, 85% have been Greek?

•  Since fraternities began in 1825, all but three US Presidents belonged to fraternities?

•  Eighty-five percent of the Fortune 500 chief executives belong to a fraternity?

•  Today, 65 fraternities with over 6,000 chapters on more than 800 campuses in the U.S. and Canada, include 400,000 undergraduates and a total living membership of over 4.5 million?

•  Similarly, there are 26 sororities with over 2,660 chapters in the U.S. and Canada have a total membership of more than 2.5 million women?

Besides the networking and numerous scholarships that Greeks are eligible to receive, strong leadership skills and a one in a lifetime opportunity are other benefits to going Greek. You meet a lot of people with similar interests, beliefs, and motivations.

WHO'S ELIGIBLE TO JOIN?

Behrend Fraternities and Sororities have high standards that must be met to be considered for membership. Our Greek system has adopted a Deferred Rush Policy. Deferred Rush means that a first semester student cannot join a Greek Letter organization. If you are a transfer student and have successfully completed one full-time semester, then you are eligible to rush a Greek organization. Each chapter at Behrend has it's own study program. The programs include being matched up with an academic mentor, tutoring programs, and study tables.

Whether you are a first semester student or a fifth semester student who is considering going Greek, get to know to who/what it is you are making a lifetime commitment. Although you are not eligible as a first semester student to join a Greek organization, you are eligible to go to their recruitment events, programs, gatherings, and parties.
