HONOR AND SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS Alpha Phi Omega (APO): a co-ed national service fraternity based on Scouting principles. APO is open to all students. The group has sponsored such programs as "Giant Twister" during Orientation, and its pie throw in which whipped cream "pies" are tossed at brave Penn State Behrend students, staff, and faculty members. APO's annual Hawaiian Dance raises money for the American Cancer Society. Beta Beta Beta: Tri-Beta is an honor society recognizing students studying biology who have completed two years of study and have maintained a 3.0 cumulative grade average. Tri-Beta gives students the opportunity to report under graduate research findings through BIOS, the journal of the society. Lambda Sigma: a national honor society for sophomores who are elected on the basis of outstanding academic and leadership accomplishments. Among other activities, the members of Lambda Sigma sponsor a Care Package program each semester for Penn State Behrend students. Omicron Delta Kappa: a national honor society for junior and senior students and faculty elected into membership on the basis of outstanding academic and leadership accomplishments. The members of ODK are active in serving the community. Its annual Mile of Pennies fund-raiser has benefited the local Second Harvest Food Bank. ODK has adopted the fifth-grade class at Diehl Elementary School in Erie, where students have tutored and participated in Earth Day. Order of Omega: The purpose of Order of Omega is to recognize those fraternity men and women who have attained a high standard of leadership in interfraternity activities, to encourage them to continue along this line, and to inspire others to strive for similar conspicuous attainment; to bring together outstanding fraternity men and women to create an organization which will help to mold the sentiment of the institution on questions of local and intercollegiate fraternity affairs. Psi Chi: a national honor society for psychology majors. It sponsors various speakers, field trips, fund-raisers and other campus-wide activities to benefit club members as well as the college and Erie communities. Reality Check: coordinates service projects that are open to the entire Penn State Behrend community, including an annual Alternative Spring Break during which students spend a week helping others in need.
