Asian Student Organization: A support group for Asian students on campus, ASO strives to ensure pride and self-awareness, and it celebrates various holidays and customs. Association of Black Collegians: ABC promotes multiculturalism and ethnic awareness on campus. It is active each year in the college's Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration. Members also coordinate Kwanza celebration, a talent and fashion show, as well as dances for the Behrend and Erie communities. Human Relations Programming Council: HRPC provides learning experiences that integrate communication skills with issues of racism, sexism, prejudice, and discrimination. The council sponsors open fora on topics such as racism, sexism, gay and lesbian issues. International Student Organization: Promotes cultural awareness through programming for the student body, with foreign students sharing cultural experiences, differences, and background. Irish American Society: An organization that strives to educate students, faculty, staff, and the community about the culture and history of the Irish people and Ireland. Multi-Cultural Council: The Multi-Cultural Council (MCC) promotes awareness, understanding and appreciation of historically underrepresented groups. It also acts as an advisory organization designed to promote unity and cooperation among its member organizations. MCC also assists in the planning and coordination of intercultural events such as The Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration, the annual Harambee Dinner and many other programs. National Society of Black Engineers: NSBE provides a supportive environment for African-American engineering students through programs and fellowship. NSBE also offers programs such as films and dances for the entire Penn State Behrend community. Organization of African Students: Sponsor of the annual African Odyssey program, OAS introduces and promotes the diverse African culture. OAS also sponsors an on-going fundraiser to send used books and computers to students in Africa. Organization of Latin American Students (OLAS): A support group for Latin American students. The group helps coordinate the annual Friday Fiesta dance at Behrend each year. Trigon: This organization strives to make homosexuality and bisexuality more acceptable, and it is both a support and social group serving gay, lesbian, and bisexual students, staff, and faculty, and their allies. Women Today: A support group dedicated to the education, growth, and awareness of students, faculty, and staff concerning the issues of women. Members co-sponsor the Women's Film Series, encourage voter registration, and co-sponsor Take Back the Night. |
