APPLICATIONS FOR RESIDENT ASSISTANT POSITIONS MAY BE PICKED UP IN THE OFFICE OF STUDENT AFFAIRS IN REED 115 BEGINNING SEPTEMBER 9, 2008.

RA APPLICATION PROCESS

1.  Applications will be available in the Division of Student Affairs office beginning September 9, 2008. 

2.  All applications must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 8, 2008 to the Division of Student Affairs.

3.  Applications will be reviewed and Email invitations will be sent on Monday, October 13th for selected candidates to come in and schedule an interview.  (Interviews will be several hours long and will involve person to person interviews and group interaction) Interviews will take place on Saturday, October 18th or Sunday, October 19th. Applicants must sign up by Thursday, October 16, 2008.

4.  Invitations to sign up for 3 credit H&SS course for Spring 2008 semester will be sent out November 3, 2008.

5.  Complete RA Class (Spring 2009) Resident Assistant Theory & Practice H&SS 297D is a 3 credit course that candidates must take in order to be considered for an RA position.  This is a great course that teaches leadership skills, dealing with conflicts, and how to create a community.

6.  Assignments will be made for Fall 2009 RA Staff in late April 2009.  Student who aren't assigned may be assigned to a waitlist.

GUIDELINES FOR RESIDENT ASSISTANT APPLICANTS

Requirements to be considered for the Resident Assistant position are:

  • a 2.50 cumulative GPA; 

  • 24 earned credit hours upon completion of Spring 2008 semester; 

  • good conduct standing with the University; and 

  • intention to attend classes at Penn State Erie at least one year following completion of the RA class. 

COMPENSATION PACKAGES FOR RESIDENT ASSISTANTS

All RAs receive free housing and a stipend towards tuition.  RAs placed everywhere but in the Apartments will recieve meal plan # 5. Stipend is dependent upon location and years of service as an RA. 

APPLICANTS TRANSFERING TO BEHREND

If you are transferring to Penn State Erie in FALL 2009 ... 

. . . and are currently an RA at another location of Penn State, then please e-mail us to let us know of your intent. We will require a letter of recommendation from your supervisor or AD and will try to arrange an interview time. 

. . . and are currently enrolled in the RA Class (or have taken the RA class) at another location of Penn State, then please email us to let us know of your intent. We will require a letter of recommendation from your instructor or AD and will try to arrange an interview time. 

. . . and you fall into other categories, please email us to let us know of your intent. We have to sometimes consider situations on individual bases (especially if coming from other colleges).
